Of course you know our number - it's all over our website and flyers 😉
but Death Valley doesn't have a phone signal in most areas
so HOW do you call us?
Follow the instructions on this page and remember:
NEVER EVER EVER leave your vehicle on foot in a remote area!
#1: SEND ONE PERSON
If there is more than one person in your party, send ONE person to the nearest phone.
Use your tow vehicle/ motorbike/ATV if you have one.
If it's safe and you and your RV are in no immediate danger, keep one person at your RV to avoid break-ins / damage and to communicate with law enforcement if they show up (and so they don't have to send a search party out unnecessarily).
If you do take all people (because they need medical care etc) leaving your vehicle with no one in it WRITE A NOTE saying where you are headed. Also your cell phone # in case you do get to an area with signal. Leave it in an obvious place - like on the dash, where law enforcement can see it easily.
#2: HITCH A RIDE
ONLY hitch a ride if it is safe to do so
NEVER send kids/teens with unknown drivers
If leaving your vehicle with noone in it WRITE A NOTE saying that you've broken down and where you are headed. Also your cell phone # in case you do get to an area with signal. Leave it in an obvious place - like on the dash, where law enforcement can see it.
Hitching a ride is easier for one person - you may have to hitch back to your rig and often other cars only have room for one person. So if possible send just one person to the telephone.
However females are safer in pairs.
USE YOUR INTELLIGENCE and do what's best for you - STAY SAFE
If one person hitches, have the person staying at the RV write down the license plate/make/model/color of the car the hitcher got a ride in.
Ask the driver to slow down or stop at street signs or intersections if you need to write down directions to where your rig is. Remember your driver might not be local either and they won't know where your rig is!
#3: SEND A PASSERBY
Last resort option.
We have no way to call & communicate back to you if this happens - if we get your message we may be on another job, which leaves you waiting and no way to know how long till we arrive.
Could be the best option if you're the only adult in the RV and have multiple kids, because hitching will be near impossible.
Again, use your intelligence and do what's best for your family.
Flag down a passerby and ask them to call us - or have someone at the nearest gas station/bar/store etc call us.
WRITE DOWN on a piece of paper:
- OUR PH # 775-775-3878
- WHAT RIG YOUR ARE IN
(make/model/color)
- YOUR LOCATION
- YOUR ISSUE
(or what you think it might be)
It's SUPER important to write this info down as passersby are often tourist themselves. They most likely DON'T know where your rig is, and often don't speak English. Someone at the store can read the note to tell us.
If you're VERY lucky, the kind stranger may offer to return to your location to update you of our phone conversation.
(You can always ask!)
